Hey there guys, it's Carter Surach from the Productive Dude YouTube channel. In today's video, I'm going to show you how to build a better to-do list and task management system in Notion. I've created this whole framework in Notion called the Notion Your Way System. The reason I created this is because I wanted to find a way that I could teach people Notion that would be understandable across all sorts of different use cases. So, when I say this is the Notion Your Way framework, I really mean that. It will work great for note-taking, task management, keeping track of recipes or finances, SOPs, or goals. Whatever it might be, this system is going to work wonders for you. If you haven't seen the full video that I put out on that, you can check it out. We'll link it as a card in the corner of this video. But for now, let's get into building this task tracker because I think you're going to love this. It's one of my favorite task trackers that I've ever built and one of the best to-do lists that I've ever come across in Notion. So, starting out, we have just this quick presentation to show you what this looks like. On the left side, we have our daily tasks and we have a template button where we can create these new daily tasks. This is where we capture our tasks for the day. Whenever you have a new task that you need to add to your to-do list for the day, you can just add it right here. This is a template. Not all of this is filled out with my tasks for this particular day, but as you can see, we would want to put wake up and then the time we'd wake up, go to the gym, come home, etc., just so you're on a very tight schedule. And then once you complete these tasks and you check them off, whatever it is that you did, maybe you missed a few that day, that's fine. What you can do is highlight this entire section, drag it over to past days, and create a page based on this day. And then I like to associate that page with some properties, like my mood for that day and giving my day a rating of one to five, just to give an idea of how I felt that day. And then I can cross-reference that with how many tasks I completed, the things I did that day, and look back on some of my best days and figure out what it is I need to do more of or less of. This is the sort, organize, and utilize column. This is the capture column. This is actually going to be a very simple Notion to-do list to build, but it's going to be very powerful. So, let's get into Notion and I'll show you guys exactly how to build this thing. This is the task tracker. If I wanted to add a new day, all I would have to do is say it's January 15th today, so I'd do Jan 15th, 2022, and then add a date here for January 15th just so it can be organized on this side. I could put in a little icon. It's a sunny day outside, so I'll do a sun. How am I feeling? Well, usually I like to do this towards the end of the day, just to give an all-encompassing view of how my day went. I have these color-coded like some of the negative emotions I might feel throughout the day would be red and then some of the in-between, like maybe I'm feeling overwhelmed or tired, that would be yellow.

So, now we have our daily tasks column and our past days column. The reason you would want to create the second date column is just if you have multiple days. Then, what you can do is click on this button and go to sort, add sort, and then go to date. You can change whether you want them to be ascending or descending so that you can see them in the order you want to look at them in. You can also add lots of different things to this like filters. If you just want to see your past days that are the most relevant or most recent, you can hit add filter and then let's say we just want to see where date is one week ago. It will only show you the days that were one week ago. But that's how you can organize this as you start filling it out. Let's just hide that date property. I was saying I wanted to do that. You can hide the minutes meditated too. Now, we just have our feelings and the rating so we have a nice view of this on a regular basis when we want to go and review how our days went. Another thing you can do is click into these days, add an icon up here. This can be whatever kind of icon you would like. But for me, I just like to put whatever the weather is for the day. So, if it's sunny, I'll put a sun. If it's snowing, I'll put snow or cloudy. That gives another metric I can track that I can map to my feelings and my rating for the day as well. Once you're ready to start the next day, all you do is hit new, Jan 2, 2022, put in the weather, and then hit new to-do list. I would go ahead and fill this out and check things off as I did before. Then, we'd simply drag that, once it's all formatted correctly, into Jan 2, come in here, add how we felt that day, add our rating, and then boom, we've got a nice record of our mood and the tasks we've completed on a regular basis. I hope this video helped you guys out. I really enjoyed making this task tracker and it's one of my favorites that I've ever created in my Notion to-do tracker. I've created a few, so if you want to go see some other renditions of this, definitely check out my full Notion playlist where we've been linking to tons of videos. I think we have more than 30 Notion videos on the channel now, so feel free to binge through those and learn more about Notion. Alright, looking forward to seeing you guys in the next one.
